In detail

The College Sports Commission's model weighs the deal's obligations, the athlete's athletic performance and social media reach, the local market and the school's market reach, and it is updated as the market changes. As of July 2026, deals of $600 to $15,000 are not put through range-of-compensation review until an athlete reaches $50,000 in associated deals in an academic year.

Frequently asked questions

Is range of compensation the same as fair market value?

It is the CSC's test for whether pay is in line with comparable people; the CSC describes it as a deal-level calculation, not a single price for an athlete.
