Rhode Island NIL rules for college and high school athletes
Rhode Island college athletes can earn NIL money under NCAA and College Sports Commission rules and their school's policy; we found no Rhode Island college NIL statute, though several bills have been filed. Rhode Island high school athletes can take endorsement deals under the RIIL's 2022 clarification of its amateur rule, as long as they make no reference to their school and use no school logos, facilities or RIIL marks.
We could not read the RIIL's current rule text; this page relies on a 2022 summary.
| Level | Rule | Who sets it |

Rhode Island college NIL: no state law
We found no Rhode Island statute on college NIL. Since the NCAA's interim policy took effect on July 1, 2021, athletes at schools in states without an NIL law may take part in NIL activity without breaking NCAA NIL rules, and each school sets its own NIL policy.
Division I athletes also report third-party deals of $600 or more to NIL Go within five business days.
Rhode Island high school NIL (RIIL)
In 2022 the RIIL clarified its amateur rule to let high school students take part in NIL opportunities such as endorsements, using their own NIL, as long as they:
- Do not reference their school or use school logos.
- Do not use school facilities or RIIL marks.
- Do not take pay-for-play deals or sign a professional playing contract in their sport.
Ask your athletic director for the current RIIL handbook text.
