NIL rules by state

Nebraska NIL rules for college and high school athletes

Nebraska college athletes can earn NIL money under the Nebraska Fair Pay to Play Act (LB 962, 2020), amended in 2022 and 2024; a 2025 bill (LB 370) to let Nebraska colleges pay athletes directly carried over without passing. Nebraska high school athletes have been allowed to earn NIL money since the NSAA's December 2021 change, as long as deals are individual and make no reference to their school.

Nebraska NIL law for college athletes

Nebraska's Fair Pay to Play Act (LB 962), introduced by Sen. Megan Hunt and passed in 2020, gave college athletes a path to earn NIL compensation; it was amended by LB 1137 and by LB 1393 in 2024.

LB 370 (2025) would update the act and allow Nebraska colleges to pay athletes directly. It had a hearing on March 17, 2025 and was listed as a carryover bill as of January 2026. Nebraska's Big Ten school takes part in House settlement revenue sharing.

Division I athletes also report third-party deals of $600 or more to NIL Go within five business days.

Nebraska high school NIL (NSAA)

Nebraska's NIL statute does not cover high schools, so the NSAA sets the rules. Its Board of Directors voted in December 2021 to let high school athletes profit from their NIL, provided the activity does not reference their school and is done individually.

  • No school uniform or logo, and nothing suggesting the school endorses the activity.
  • Trackers report no compensation for coaching during the sport's season.

A bill, LB 1046, would set statewide high school NIL standards, including limits on alcohol and nicotine endorsements and reporting. We found no record that it passed.
