NIL rules by state

Nevada NIL rules for college and high school athletes

Nevada college athletes can earn NIL money under AB 254, the state NIL law effective January 1, 2022, which bars Nevada colleges and associations from unreasonably interfering with NIL contracts. For high school athletes, the NIAA approved NIL language in April 2023, but it needed to be adopted into state regulation, and we could not confirm it has been, so check with the NIAA before accepting any payment.

Nevada high school NIL (NIAA)

In April 2023 the NIAA Board approved NIL language, but it had to be adopted into regulation (cited as NAC 385B.374) before taking effect, and the NIAA said at the time there was no timetable. The approved language would protect amateur status for students paid to instruct, supervise or officiate youth sports and recreation, with restrictions on adult entertainment, tobacco, cannabis, controlled substances, weapons and gambling.

Earlier summaries describe Nevada as allowing NIL only outside NIAA-sanctioned sports and without school names, teams, uniforms or logos. We could not confirm the current rule; ask the NIAA before accepting any NIL payment.
